Bird (berries) and bee plant
- Once established, Skimmia can be allowed to grow without pruning or much other maintenance. It is tolerant of shade and another good evergreen for the shrub bed.
- Male and female forms are available so to guarantee berries it is important to get a female plant – check with the supplier if in doubt.
- Male forms still have clusters of small flowers in mid- to late spring, opening from red buds and attractive to bees.
- Birds will take the berries.
